Welcome to Heather's Online Astronomy Journal.
Welcome to my astronomy page!
My name is Heather. I am a thirty-something year old mother of 3 precious kids. I am also a 5th grade teacher. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 12 years. I have been interested in astronomy for as long as I can remember. I spent many nights looking up and naming the constellations and planets as a child/teenager. But since the beginning of this year I have become more serious about it. I purchased a pair of Bushnell 16x50's a few months ago and was AMAZED at all I could see. And at the end of April my family pitched in and bought me a 5" Celestron Nexstar 130SLT for my birthday. Now I'm hooked!
I love using my new telescope! I also enjoy singing on my church praise & worship team, and spending time with my family.
Favorite Sky Object
I love the Orion nebula (M42), but I have been unable to see it in my new scope since it sets too early this time of year.
I love star clusters like the Pleides and the Coma star cluster.
Experience: < 1 Year
Astrophotography: Yes, I do take pictures through my telescope
Where I live
Comments about where I live
Luling is about 25 miles SW of New Orleans. There are a lot of oak trees in my neighborhood (3 in my yard) so viewing anything close to the horizon is difficult. There is definitely light pollution in the NE due to the city, but looking south is okay!
