I finally have my entire astrophotography package together! I took delivery of my dovetail rail for mounting my Astro-Physics 80mm guide scope on my OTA, got my SSAG camera from Orion and put it all together and tried it out in the daylight today to familiarize myself with all the software, etc.

And I'm being blessed with a clear sky tonight... but I'm also being cursed with a very bright moon right in the Milky Way where all my favorite targets are. But I'm going to go out, align the scope and shoot something.

In any case, I will update the journal tomorrow with my successes or failures. Wish me luck!

Thanks for the comments Neil! You are right of course. If this were easy everyone would be doing it as they say.

As for last night, first it was the dew and my dewshields did nothing to help, everything was soaked. I even heard an arcing sound when I plugged in a usb cable and I thought I must have fried something but everything kept working. But the OTAs were dewing up constantly. Next, clouds. After I got the SSAG operational, clouds moved in and I couldn't keep enough signal to track. So about 1 am I decided to pack it in and consider it a learning experience. I'm going to wait until the moon is out of the sky and the humidity is down before doing another session.

But it is a fun, fun, fun hobby and the challenge makes it worth it.

Congratulations. Looks fantastic. I can't wait to see your progress. Be patient... it's tough to take pictures of things in outer space!
