Initial Entry ~

Equipment ~
Celestron Omni XLT 150 FL 750mm f/5 Newtonian Reflector & Orion 8x40 illuminated straight through finerscope.
Orion SkyView Pro Equatorial, TrueTrack duel axis electronic drive & polar axis finder scope.
Canon EOS Rebel T3 1100D DSLR, Baader Planetarium 2" Moon & Skyglow IR-Cut Neodymium Filter & Ziekos Remote Shutter Release.

Seeing Conditions ~
Fairly clear and cool with a decending Waning Gibbous Moon.

Time ~
9:00-10:00 pm est.

Subject ~
M42

Spent a good amount of time framing and testing shots before my final run. Work night and fairly cold so I kept the session
short but long enough to get a good run of 20 subs, darks, flats, dark flats and offsets. I usually try and keep all my
supporting frames on a 1:1 ratio.

Comments ~
I have been learning how to use Sagelight Image Editor v4.4 to process long exposure images. I have had to take
information from tutorials for folks using Photoshop and interpreting the concepts for use in Sagelight. It has been a high
learning curve as most if not all of my experience has come from drawing and obsevation. After nearly a month I have my
first final image of M42 in Orion's Sword.

Technical ~
M42, unguided, 5x50 second subs for a total of 4 minutes 10 seconds. ISO 400 stacked with DSS using 5 darks, flats, dark
flats and offsets. Processed using Sagelight Image Editor v4.4.

Very nice first pic! It will be interesting to see how you do as you have more time. M42 is a challenging object since the Trapezium area will burn out quickly with even short exposures. Good luck and nice work!
