This is my first entry though it is about my 6th time observing. I decided to begin to log my observation sessions to keep a diary of sorts regarding my progression as an amature astronomer.
2 weeks ago I picked up a new 32mm Plossl and a nice new 2X Barlow from Sean's Astronomy Shop
in Battle Ground, Washington. Sean and Dan were extremely helpful.
This is only my second time observing now that I have the scope set up correctly. Tracking is so much easier now that I understand the G4 Equatorial mount and how it's supposed to be used.
Tonight was a pretty clear night and Jupiter was outside of the haze that kept me from getting a good look at the Orion nebula or many other objects. I could see all 4 of Jupiters moons and 3 stripes coming in and out of focus.
Here is what I looked at:
32mm Eyepiece - It's smallish in the 32mm eyepiece, but still looks cool. This new eyepiece is very clear.
25mm Eyepiece - My 25mm is not quite as nice as the 32mm, but still produces a pretty good image. On a very clear night I think this one will look very good.
6.5mm Eyepiece - My 6.5mm is a very poor eyepiece and I'm going to replace it with a much higher quality 9.5mm hopefully tomorrow. The image is very blurry and Jupiter began to get caught behind the haze of the incoming clouds.
The clouds became thick enough for me to make this a very short session. I looked at Jupiter for 10 or 15 minutes and tried to find Andromeda. I have never seen it, but there was way too much haze for it I'm sure.
It was a really fun night observing.
