We've had a series of clear nights the last several nights and you can bet your bottom dollar I've been out observing every night.
The sky is clear, but the seeing has only been 4 or 5 on a scale of 1 to 10. So I've been doing things like practicing finding memorized objects and pulling out old equipment to make sure it's okay after sitting for so long.
73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann - Fragmented Comet
Among other things though, I've been tracking the Schwassmann-Wachmann 73P comet fragments. The only 2 I can seem to find consistently is the B and C fragments. Of course, they are the brightest.
Tonight was exceptionally great because not only are the comet fragments continuing to increase in magnitude, but the B fragment is about 2 degrees from M13. I was able to get both objects in my 4" wide field scope at about 12 power. It was a fantastic view.
Tomorrow night I will not be in town so I will not be able to observe it only 16 archminutes from M13. I'm looking forward to photographs others are taking to show me how cool the view was.
I also found an interesting web page that shows "comet rendezvous". I think I'll look into this more for other amazing views of multiple objects. Comet Rendezvous Calendar Link
