Tonight was a bit spontaneous because there was a break in the clouds that made quite a large clear patch. I quickly broke out the Min-EQ, threw the 70mm lens on the Canon 350D and shot for an hour into the sucker hole. Working with Jeff who has been taking wide field shots. In seeing them I've been very encouraged to shoot some wide field shots myself (though these two are not nearly as wide as Jeff's).

The Coma Cluster - Huge Open Cluster
Speaking to Jeff about shooting the Coma Bernices constellation I thought I'd shoot the cluster and see how many of the tiny galaxies in the field I could get in the shot. I was quite surprised at how many of them are in the shot - though many are no more then a tiny faint spot. the Coma Cluster is nearly 9 degrees. It's the largest open cluster I'm aware of.

Canes Venatici
Since Canes Venatici was in the sucker hole and has a handful of galaxies around 12.5 mag or brighter I thought I'd shoot it as well. Like in the Coma Cluster image, the fainter smaller galaxies are not anything more then small faint fuzzy dots.

It was fun taking these images and definitely makes me want to take more wide field shots.
