I mean... what they heck... how can you pass up a bargain?
So, I've been wanting one of these AT6RC's for a while now, but haven't had the time or the resources to pick one up. A local member (thanks Tom!) had one and needed to get rid of it, so I took it off his hands.
The images I've seen online from it aren't exactly stunning. The DSO's are soft and the stars are not exactly pin points. Even still, I figure for the price, it's well worth a trial run. There are other's interested in this scope at this price if I'm not happy with it and I'm sure it wouldn't last long on Astromart.
Why I Wanted One:
Who doesn't want an RC?! (granted, it's not an RCOS...)
I'm primarily interested in the 1350mm focal length.
It has a really nice built in camera rotator (see the gallery for an example).
Neither the 115mm of actual aperture nor the f/9 speed bother me at all. What will bother me is if I can't shoot smaller galaxies better then with the ED103S blown up to 200%. I mean... bloated stars are bloated stars you know. If that's the case, it will go on Astromart.
However, I suspect at it's focal length it will outperform the Vixen at 200%, but that's just a hunch based on looking at a few dozen pictures taken with it.
It's the perfect time of the year to have such a thing. Now if we can only get some clear skies...
Here are the pictures of the scope (poorly shot with a cell phone).
